In 2027 Sydney Dance Company builds on its artistic legacy with a program that celebrates collaboration and the ever-evolving possibilities of contemporary dance. Across two major Sydney seasons, national and international touring, and a suite of programs supporting independent artists and emerging practitioners, the Company will present ambitious new work alongside celebrated repertoire.

Future Reverie launches Sydney Dance Company’s 2027 Season with an ambitious new work; an electric meeting of four choreographic forces: Richard Cilli, Antony Hamilton, Sela Vai and Charmene Yap. Presented at Carriageworks, Future Reverie is a heady ritual of joy; a hypnotic experience that brings together distinct visions, converging in a singular performance.
Driven by a pulsating electronic score by DJ Deepchild (Rick Bull), Future Reverie draws on the interplay between nostalgia, movement and euphoria. Presented in the round, the work features Sydney Dance Company’s full Ensemble alongside eight Pre-Professional Year students. The combination of the music, powerful choreography and striking lightscapes create an exhilarating experience that will make you move.

Wild Order brings Sydney Dance Company back to the Roslyn Packer Theatre in October 2027 with a powerful mainstage season that celebrates both artistic legacy and the future of Australian contemporary dance. At its centre is the world premiere of Rafael Bonachela’s final major commission as Artistic Director, a landmark moment in the company’s history. Audiences will also experience the highly anticipated return of Melanie Lane’s acclaimed WOOF alongside Ngaere Jenkins’ From the horizon thereafter, making its mainstage debut after its original success through New Breed.
Uniting three distinct choreographic voices, Wild Order reflects the creative breadth and ambition that have defined Bonachela’s artistic leadership. His final major commission reunites longtime, award-winning collaborators Nick Wales, Damien Cooper and Kelsey Lee, creating a major new work for the company’s Ensemble. Together with WOOF and From the horizon thereafter, this compelling triple bill offers audiences a rare opportunity to experience the artists, ideas and creative voices that have shaped Sydney Dance Company’s evolution and helped define a remarkable era of contemporary dance.
