Dance Labs

Sydney Dance Company’s Dance Labs are immersive training experiences designed to help adult dancers deepen their practice and develop their artistry.

Created to bridge the gap between open classes and more advanced training opportunities, these focused programs offer dedicated time to refine technique, strengthen foundational skills and explore performance quality in a supportive studio environment.

Designed for dancers who already attend Level 1 and above classes, Dance Labs provide space to ask questions, challenge yourself and grow with guidance from Sydney Dance Company’s experienced teaching artists.

Please note these programs are not suitable for complete beginners.

The Theatre Jazz Lab is a two-day immersive program for adult dancers looking to deepen their skills in theatre jazz and develop stronger performance presence.

Combining technique, conditioning and choreography, this program explores the movement vocabulary, musicality and storytelling that define theatre jazz.

Across the program, dancers will:
– Build confidence in theatre jazz technique and movement quality
– Develop musicality, characterisation and storytelling through dance
– Strengthen alignment and control through conditioning and Pilates sessions
– Learn choreography that brings together technique and performance skills

This supportive and collaborative environment encourages dancers to explore artistry while refining the technical foundations of the style.

Schedule

9:30-10:30am: Conditioning & Pilates
10:45am-12:15pm: Technique class
1:15-2:45pm: Storytelling and characterisation workshop
3:00-4:00pm: Theatre jazz choreography

Who it’s for

Adult dancers who regularly attend Level 1 theatre jazz classes and want to extend their training. Participants should have at least two years of experience in the style.
