Carla Zampatti Commissioning Fund

Be part of the future of Australian contemporary dance

Sydney Dance Company sets out to create and commission new contemporary dance work that exceeds expectations, pushes boundaries, and lifts the bar on artistic excellence every time we set foot on stage.

Bringing newly commissioned works to life each year also requires passion and commitment from a very special group of supporters. From 2013, the late Carla Zampatti AC led the charge, hosting an elegant evening of dance and fundraising in her beautiful home.

Through Carla’s enduring pursuit of perfection and dedication to design, she embodied the creativity and passion that inspire us.

As a Sydney Dance Company Board member and champion of dance, Carla’s generosity empowered our artists. Our audiences across Australia and around the world continue to be thrilled and inspired by the exceptional dance repertoire made possible by her generosity.

To celebrate Carla’s legacy and ensure that this commitment is carried into the future, we are honoured to have launched the Carla Zampatti Commissioning Fund in 2022.

We invite you to make a contribution to this fund, at any time, so that we can continue to support talent, music, design, and celebrate Carla’s spirit, drive and belief in the importance of creation.

Thank you.

In 2023, the Carla Zampatti Commissioning Fund supporters helped to bring two new commissions to life, as part of our Ascent  season: Rafael Bonachela’s new workI Am-ness, featuring the powerful and emotive work of the Latvian composer Pēteris Vasks; and renowned international choreographer Marina Mascarell’s new work The Shell, A Ghost, The Host & The Lyrebird with Set and Costume Designers Lauren Brincat and Leah Giblin, original score by Nick Wales and lighting design for both Rafael and Marina’s work by Damien Cooper.

Here is part one of a short documentary on the making of The Shell, A Ghost, The Host & The Lyrebird highlighting the importance of supporting artists to create new work. Watch the rest of this documentary series on YouTube.
