Our courses welcome participants of all ages and abilities 18 years and over. Participants aged 16–17 years with appropriate experience may be considered and should discuss this with our team. We appreciate your expression of interest as it helps us understand your level of training and the skills you bring. This information is crucial for assessing entry requirements and ensuring a cohesive group dynamic that maximizes benefits for all involved. Our courses are suitable for a variety of creative artists and educators, including dance practitioners, performers, educators, and students, as well as theatre practitioners, circus performers, movement practitioners, theatre and film directors, producers, and movement directors and consultants.
To receive accreditation, participants must have an Australian or New Zealand citizenship or an appropriate residency visa to reside in Australia for the duration of the program. Sydney Dance Company cannot arrange Student Visas.
While most of the learning experience within our Accredited Short Courses is gained through practical training in the Studios, there is also a small academic component. This will be completed through Sydney Dance Company’s online Learning Management System, where participants can access resources and other content to support their learning and complete online assessment tasks for marking. Upon successful completion of each course, participants will be awarded a nationally recognized statement of attainment.
Our courses are designed to welcome artists from all backgrounds and artistic genres. While prior dance experience is not necessarily a requirement, we do ask for an expression of interest that includes why you're drawn to the course, your background and interest in performing arts, as well as your specific course preference.

Dance on Film Accredited Short Course – October 13 – November 17
Led by dance and film specialists, this immersive course delves into the art of choreography for the camera, exploring camera work, the dancing body and its impact on choreography.
Whether you’re a dance enthusiast, aspiring artist, or simply curious about creative movement for film, this accredited short course will develop your skills and understanding of a variety of camera movements and positionings to capture the dancing body. Over six sessions participants will explore choreography for film and develop editing techniques to enhance choreographic vision for dance on film. The workshops will culminate in the creation of a short filmic product to share in the final week at an in-house film screening for friends and family.
On the completion of this Dance on Film Accredited Short Course, a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for the following unit of competencies will be awarded.
CUACHR611 Create choreography for stage and screen
You will be required to bring your own camera device (smart phones are appropriate) to film your movement and a computer with an editing application. We recommend downloading free software for basic editing, such as iMovie, Clipchamp, or Davinci Resolvecut. Alternatively, Premiere and Final Cut are more sophisticated apps, although these have subscription costs. Technical support will be offered.

This course is open to all creatives looking to develop their self producing skills, whether your background is in visual arts, theatre, film or dance. No professional experience is required.
From understanding the industry and the funding support available at local, state, and federal levels, to delving into foundation fellowships and a diverse range of application scenarios this course equips you with the knowledge and confidence to pursue funding opportunities with clarity and purpose. During the course you will explore the nuances of how applications are assessed, unravel the criteria that shape successful proposals and get a behind-the-scenes look into the discussions that unfold during peer assessment processes.

Movement Mastery Accredited Short Course – Coming in 2025.
The Movement Mastery Accredited Short Course is an exploration into a wide array of movement techniques and body awareness philosophies led by expert dance educators, choreographers, and movement specialists.
Over the duration of the course the participants will explore improvisation techniques, somatic self-observation processes, kinaesthetic principles, and mindful movement concepts, facilitating a deeper understanding of deliberate action in movement. Each session builds upon the last, allowing participants to progressively deepen their knowledge and skills, ultimately mastering dance movement.
This course is suitable for all levels and individuals wishing to expand their approach to movement practices.

Movement Mastery Accredited Short Course – Coming in 2025.
The Movement Mastery Accredited Short Course is an exploration into a wide array of movement techniques and body awareness philosophies led by expert dance educators, choreographers, and movement specialists.
Over the duration of the course the participants will explore improvisation techniques, somatic self-observation processes, kinaesthetic principles, and mindful movement concepts, facilitating a deeper understanding of deliberate action in movement. Each session builds upon the last, allowing participants to progressively deepen their knowledge and skills, ultimately mastering dance movement.
This course is suitable for all levels and individuals wishing to expand their approach to movement practices.
On the successful completion of the Movement Mastery Accredited Short Course, participants will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for the following unit of competency.

Each session will dive into a different movement practice, unpacking it's methodologies to engage with a mindful movement practice. These sessions are led by Sydney Dance Company's Training staff and industry professionals.
While the majority of these units are achieved through practical learning in the Studios, a small component of the course is academic based learning. Note that there is an additional 5 hours of online research and assessment work outside of course hours. This will be completed through Sydney Dance Company’s online Learning Management System, here participants can access resources and other content to support their learnings.

Choreographic Practice Accredited Short Course – Coming in 2025
Sydney Dance Company is excited to once again offer its Choreographic Practice Accredited Short Course as a one-week intensive.
The specialised Choreographic Practice Accredited Short Course offers learners a diverse range of choreographic tools to support their dance-making and creative practices. Across a period of five days, participants will meet with influential choreographers and choreographic educators to explore various tools, techniques, methods, and processes for creating original solo works.
This accredited course is suitable for dance students and professionals with an interest in developing their choreographic practice, as well as performing arts teachers working in creative industries or education wishing to expand their skillset.
On the successful completion of the Choreographic Practice Accredited Short Course, a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for the following unit of competency will be awarded:
CUACHR511 Create and perform complex dance pieces

Mornings will begin with warm up, along with practicing and processing the contextualised information integrated into this session, led by Sydney Dance Company’s Training staff. Afternoons will be facilitated by practicing industry professional to unpack, investigate and develop not only choreographic practices but creating solo content.
