Sydney Dance Company’s Primary Education Workshop Series engages, inspires and challenges students with a series of curriculum-aligned dance lessons, delivering a high-quality arts experience and enriching both students’ and teachers’ practice.
Through a positive and inclusive learning environment, the Workshop Series builds foundational dance technique while fostering collaboration, creativity and critical thinking, supporting participants to develop knowledge and understanding of dance and work towards meeting curriculum outcomes in performing, composing and appreciating.
The program is guided by the two options below and organised in collaboration with your school to suit your students, teachers, timetables, and goals.
These structures can be adapted to suit your teachers and school to ensure the most effective and engaging delivery for your students.
Purpose: Students engage deeply with dance skills covering performing, composing and appreciating activities.
Duration: 1 or 2 x 45 to 60-minute lessons, per group, per week of up to 35 students.
Length: Weekly, across 4-8 weeks.
Outcome: Short informal performance that can be shared at an assembly, school presentation or creative arts event.
Included: 1 x 90-minute teacher professional learning session during or after school hours. The session will provide teachers with inspiration for leading creative movement activities to confidently start dance classes or choreography.

Duration: 3 – 5 x 45 to 60 minute lessons per week, per group, of up to 35 students.
