Summer in the City

Be a tourist in your own city this summer! Here are our tips for the perfect weekend of sightseeing around Sydney, including morning markets, a dance class (of course!) and some free fun at Sydney Festival.

8am: Catch the train to Milsons Point and walk back into the city over the Harbour Bridge. Climbing the Pylon Lookout is a much cheaper alternative to the Bridge Climb that still offers stunning views, along with exhibits on the Bridge’s history. Once you’ve crossed the Bridge, stop by Sydney Observatory Hill for more incredible photo opportunities.

9am: Stroll through the vibrant Rocks Markets, where you can buy artwork, jewellery, clothing, candles, gifts and more. Pick up your morning coffee or juice from one of the stalls, or stop by Pancakes on the Rocks for something more substantial.

10am: Take morning class with us! On weekends, our 10am classes include Jazz, Ballet and Stretch. You’ll be dancing in our iconic studios right on the waterfront – the very same studios where our award-winning professional dancers rehearse during the week. View our timetable.

12pm: After class, browse the historical Wharf Precinct, grab lunch at one of the Walsh Bay cafes or take a stroll through the waterfront reserve to Barangaroo’s shopping precinct. More shopping awaits at Pitt Street Mall, the QVB and The Galeries Victoria.

3pm: Need a time out? Have an afternoon siesta in The Domain or The Royal Botanic Gardens. The beautiful old fig trees provide the perfect spot to relax, read a book or catch up with friends. For those with energy left to spare, top Sydney attractions such as the Art Gallery of NSW, Australian Museum, State Library, Parliament House and Royal Mint are all within walking distance.

4.30pm: Sydney Festival is one of the best things about summer in this city! The Meriton Festival Village opens at 4.30pm – this is the place to go to enjoy a drink or bite to eat, with free performances and DJs every night (the Festival finishes on 28 Jan). Make sure you stop by the Village Sideshow to see Sydney Dance Company’s virtual reality film, Stuck In The Middle With You.

6.30pm: There are too many delicious dining options in Sydney to choose from! We’ve also got plenty of bars for lovers of whine, whiskey and everything in between. Check out TimeOut Sydney or Concrete Playground for recommendations.
