Children & Families

Young dancers and their families have the opportunity to explore the joy of dance through new short courses and classes in our iconic studios on Sydney Harbour.

Set in Sydney Dance Company’s waterfront Neilson Studio, you’ll be moving and grooving together in no time. Join our Families class and explore a different dance style each week such as jazz, contemporary or hip hop.  For young dancers, our Parents and Toddlers class introduces creative expression and movement through stories, colours and props.

Families Classes – Ages 5 – 18 years (book single class or 4 or 8 week packs)
Starting Sunday 12 May

Parents and Toddlers Classes – Ages 2 – 4 years (4 weeks)
Courses starting Sunday 12 May and Sunday 16 June

Creative & Active Kids

Sydney Dance Company is an Active & Creative Kids provider. If you have vouchers you would like to redeem for this workshop, please follow the steps below:

– Enrol your child in the course, and make payment
– Email us at [email protected] with your child’s name and DOB and your Active or Creative Kids voucher number
– We will then process the voucher and contact you to refund the value back to you

FAQs

Sydney Dance Company's Children & Families workshops are open to big and little beginner dancers. Please book the course appropriate to your child's age group.

Wear casual dance wear, something that you already have and feel comfortable in e.g. dance tights and top, leotard and tights with skirt or shorts over the top, track pants and t-shirt/singlet top. For Jazz and Hip Hop bring jazz shoes or sneakers and for Contemporary and Lyrical bring ballet flats or cotton socks. You can also dance bare foot.

Please bring your own lunch, snacks and drinks. Take your bags into the studio with you and leave valuables at home. There is hand sanitiser available at multiple points across the Studios for you to use.

Parents/Guardians will be asked to create an account for themselves. Once this is created, you have the option to attach a child account to your account. Please create an account for each child you wish to enrol. Enrol in the selected course and then checkout. If you wish to enrol multiple children or purchase multiple workshops, click again to add another class/child before checking out.

We do not provide refunds or credits for change of mind or other personal circumstances. We can provide a credit note if the cancellation is due to a medical reason and a medical certificate is provided.

Dance classes can involve risk of personal injury. While Sydney Dance Company takes all reasonable care in the conduct of its classes, it accepts no responsibility for injury or loss caused during classes or whilst participants are at or near the dance studio. You are responsible for ensuring that you are physically and medically fit for the class and during the class you must at all times take care of your own personal safety. If an advertised teacher is suddenly unavailable, due to circumstances beyond our control, a replacement teacher with similar attributes and qualifications will be employed.

Your health and well being have always, and will continue to be, our number one priority. We encourage you to wear a mask, practice physical distancing where possible and sanitise your hands.

Do I need to be double vaccinated to attend class?

No. As of 11 March, proof of vaccination (or medical exemption) is no longer required to enter the Wharf Studios.

What do I do if I feel unwell or have any of the following symptoms: cough, fever, sore throat, shortness of breath?

Please do not come to the Studios. Get tested and wait until you no longer have any symptoms before returning to class. Please adhere to any self-isolation guidelines from the NSW Government before you return to the Studios.

Dance for Families

Ages 5 – 18 & Parents: Families Class
Wharf 4/5 15 Hickson Rd Dawes Point

Starts Sunday 12 May
Every Sunday from 11:00am – 12:00pm

Location: Studio 5: Neilson Studio

Young dancers and their parents / guardians will explore dance together in this families class. Each week, you will explore a different dance style, with each class featuring a warm-up and choreography for everyone to learn together. This class is for school-aged children and their parents / guardian/s and is designed to be participatory for all involved.

Fee:
$36 per session (one adult & one child)
Additional participants $15
Families 4 pack $136 (all 4 sessions – 1 adult & 1 child)
Families 8 pack $260 (8 sessions – 1 adult & 1 child)

Every Sunday from 10.15-11 am

Designed for Parents and children aged 2-4 years, this class will help your child explore movement in a fun and gentle way. Drawing on stories, colours, and props to introduce your child to the world of movement and creative expression. We will also focus on building gross motor skills, balance, and coordination in a safe and nurturing environment.

If you’re looking for a way to have fun, get moving, and connect with your child, then our Parent and Toddlers class is for you!

Fee: $120 for 1 parent & 1 child

Sunday 12 May – Sunday 2 June (4 Weeks)

Sunday 16 June – Sunday 7 July

Wharf 4/5 is a brisk 15 minute walk from both Circular Quay and Wynyard Station. From Circular Quay walk towards Dawes Point via Argyle Street, then right onto Lower Fort Street, left onto Windmill Street and down the steps to Hickson Road.

By Bus
Wharf 4/5 can be accessed by the 324 and 325 bus services from the Eastern Suburbs. To check on updates to your bus services please visit transportnsw.info or phone 131 500.

By Car
Metered parking is available outside the Wharf. There are a number of car parks close by. We suggest travelling by public transport where possible.
