Join in the fun at Sydney Dance Company these Autumn holidays and develop skills in a range of dance styles. For boys and girls, from the beginner to experienced dancer, Sydney Dance Company workshops are a great way for young people to improve their dance technique and learn new routines taught by Sydney’s best teachers and choreographers.

Located at Sydney Dance Company’s iconic Wharf Studios, Bondi Pavilion, The Joan Performing Arts Centre, Penrith and Mount St Benedict College, Pennant Hills.

Sydney Dance Company school holiday workshops provide an exciting and focused environment for young people to improve their dance technique and learn new routines under the direction of professional teachers and choreographers. Workshops for both beginner and experienced dancers are held over four weeks at Sydney Dance Company’s iconic wharf Studios and other locations around Sydney.

Beginner Dance Workshop (for 5 to 7 years)
Explore dance in this 1.5 hour workshop for the beginner dancer. Children will learn about different dance styles whilst engaging in fun, physical activity. Through structured exercises children are encouraged to create original movement that will develop their imaginations and inspire creativity. Choose either the Contemporary or Jazz/Hip Hop class.

Beginner Dance Workshop (for 8 to 11 years)
Beginner dance gives you the opportunity to try different styles and discover your own grooves and rhythm. Start with Hip Hop – a fun way to build confidence and learn new technique.  In a Contemporary class you will participate in different exercises which encourage original movement to ignite your creativity and imagination.  In the final class you will learn a simple routine from a popular Musical Theatre piece.

Boys Only Hip Hop (for 8-12 years)
This Boys Only Hip Hop Workshop will focus on freestyle techniques building confidence, creativity and imagination to help develop your own unique style in Break Dancing, Popping and Hip Hop. You will learn technique and choreography from Sydney Dance Company’s experienced teachers and have the opportunity to improve your performance skills, create your own work and develop your personal style.

Contemporary and Lyrical (for 8 to 11 years)
Work with skilled choreographers on four different routines as you build a strong foundation of core technique. Explore the fluidity of movement and control that is required when performing Lyrical dance. Then focus on the more abstract form of Contemporary dance. Uncover your natural movement whilst developing personal interpretation and self-expression.

Contemporary and Lyrical Extended (for 12-13 years)
In addition to learning contemporary and lyrical choreography, explore creative task work and improvisation exercises that the Sydney Dance Company use when creating original work. Students will learn a range of techniques and various approaches to developing their own movement. Work creatively with other dancers, creating dynamic, personal and original work to share with family and friends at the end of the three days.

Intensive Week-long Contemporary workshop (for 14 to 18 years)
Sydney Dance Company’s intensive week long workshop is for senior experienced dance students aged 14 to 18 years. Over 5 days experience rigorous training in Ballet and Contemporary technique. Master Contemporary and Lyrical routines taught by industry professionals.  Immerse yourself in the practice of Structured Improvisation as you commit to task work which leads to a final composition.  Experience a mock audition with staff members of the Pre Professional Year full time course and have the opportunity to ask questions about dance training in a special Q&A session.  And work with a previous Sydney Dance Company member who will teach you repertoire choreographed by Artistic Director, Rafael Bonachela.

Jazz, Hip Hop, JFH and Theatre Jazz (for 8 to 18 years)
Over two fun filled and challenging days, explore four dynamic dance styles. Each session participate in an intensive warm up and learn an original routine taught by our expert dance teachers. Enhance flexibility and movement in a Jazz class. Learn inventive, high energy Hip Hop and Street Dance routines and discover how to generate your own creative and unique movement. Combine skills learned in the morning sessions in a JFH (Jazz Funk and Hip Hop) class where you will learn routines similar to those seen in popular dance videos. Then showcase your performance skills in a Theatre Jazz class as you learn a routine from musical theatre. 

JFH, Hip Hop, Lyrical and Contemporary (for 8-16 years) at The Joan Performing Arts Centre
Explore four different dance styles in this two day dance workshop. Start each session with a warm up and learn an original routine taught by our expert dance teachers. Start the day with a JFH (Jazz, Funk and Hip Hop) class where you will learn routines similar to those seen in popular dance videos. Then learn inventive, high energy Hip Hop and Street Dance routines. Enhance flexibility and fluidity in a Lyrical class as you learn about expressive movement. Engage with Contemporary dance and its unique approach to creative movement.  Reveal your natural movement and develop your own personal interpretation and self-expression.

Lyrical, Jazz, Hip Hop and Contemporary (for 8-16 years) at Bondi Pavilion
Over two fun filled and challenging days, explore four dynamic dance styles. Each session participate in an intensive warm up and learn an original routine taught by our expert dance teachers. Enhance flexibility and fluidity in a Lyrical class as you learn about expressive movement. Focus on the technical skills needed for turns, kicks and jumps in a Jazz class. Learn inventive, high energy Hip Hop and Street Dance routines. Engage with Contemporary dance and its unique approach to creative movement and individuality.

Contemporary, Lyrical, Hip Hop and Jazz at Mount St Benedict College
Work with skilled choreographers on four different routines as you build a strong foundation of core technique.  Start each session with a warm up and learn an original routine taught by our expert dance teachers. Focus on the more abstract form of Contemporary dance as you uncover your natural movement and develop your own personal interpretation and self-expression. Explore the fluidity of movement and control that is required when performing Lyrical dance.  Learn inventive, high energy Hip Hop and Street Dance routines.  And finally enjoy enhance your flexibility and movement in a Jazz class. 

Who are the courses for?
Sydney Dance Company holiday courses are for young dancers with some experience except for the Beginner Dance workshop and Boys Only Hip Hop. The majority of our students have been participating in dance classes for at least one year.   Please book the course appropriate to your age group.

What do I wear?
Wear casual dance wear, something that you already have and feel comfortable in eg. dance tights and top, leotard and tights with skirt or shorts over the top, track pants and t-shirt/singlet top. For Jazz and Hip Hop bring jazz shoes or sneakers and for Contemporary and Lyrical bring ballet flats or cotton socks, you can also dance bare foot.

What do I bring?
Please bring your own lunch, snacks and drinks. Students with any allergies should take appropriate precautions. Take your bags into the studio with you and leave valuables at home.

How do I enrol?
Please enrol online by clicking the Book Now button. Parents/Guardians will be asked to create an account for themselves, once created create an account for each child you wish to enrol. Enrol in the selected course and then checkout. If you wish to enrol multiple children or purchase multiple workshops, click again to add another class/child before checking out.

What is the cancellation policy?
We do not provide refunds or credits for change of mind or other personal circumstances. We can provide a credit note if the cancellation is due to a medical reason and a medical certificate is provided.

Child Safe Environment
Sydney Dance Company is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for children and young people. The welfare of children and young people participating in our programs is of the highest priority and we foster practices to support children’s health and confidence.

Students will be supervised by our Teachers and Class Assistants at all times including breaks. Please ensure that students are collected on time after the final class. Children under the age of 12 must be collected by a parent or guardian at the end of the day. Please ensure you are on time to collect your child. If you are running late please call our office on 9258 4818.

All Teachers and Assistants at Sydney Dance Company have a valid Working With Children Check and are aware of their obligations under the Commission for Children and Young People Act 1998.

Sydney Dance Company teachers and choreographers are highly experienced industry professionals with a passion for teaching young people.

Many have performed with professional dance companies including Sydney Dance Company, The Australian Ballet, and West Australian Ballet. You may recognise some teachers from national musical theatre tours and television shows such as So You Think You Can Dance, Dancing with the Stars and X-Factor.

Sharing their expertise and unique style, teachers along with our class assistants will provide support and guidance to all students. All our teaching staff have a valid Working With Children Check.
