Biography

Tony Assness is the premier designer and creative director for live events in Australia. He works on a huge variety of events from large-scale fashion shows and corporate events, outdoor staged spectaculars through to boutique dinners, product launches and live theatre.

He is responsible for legendary, media saturated events such as the Sydney launch of Baz Luhrmann’s Moulin Rouge and the launch of Fox Studios Australia.

In 2005, he delivered the international launch of The Red Bull Formula One Team. In 2007 he was the creative director on the 75th anniversary of The Sydney Harbour Bridge.

He has created many events for FOXTEL, including the national launch of FOXTEL Digital and their 15th Birthday, summer and winter fashion spectacles for the department store MYER, and the last seven on-field entertainments for the Nation Rugby League Grand Final.

2008 saw Tony return to working in theatre collaborating with choreographer Rafael Bonachela creating sets, costumes and video for the acclaimed 360°.

His clients include NEWS Ltd, Macquarie Bank, Verve Cliquot, Paspaley, National Breast Cancer, Westfield, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, IMG, The Powerhouse Museum and The Sydney Children’s Hospital.

Tony was the Creative Director for the Brisbane Festival, collaborating with the artistic director on the 2010, 2011 and 2012 Festivals.

Tony played the support role of Party Design Consultant to the Academy Award winning film designer Catherine Martin creating the look and feel of two pivotal party scenes in the film The Great Gatsby.

In 2012 Tony designed the costume, set and screen content for the production, 2 One Another choreographed by Rafael Bonachela for Sydney Dance Company.

Tony Assness is a graduate of the University of NSW and holds a Bachelor of Visual Arts.
