Biography

Stefan Karlsson (born 1955 in Sweden), is a dancer, director, choreographer and educator. He has performed with the Cullberg Ballet, TanzForum, WA Ballet, Sydney Dance Company, Australian Dance Theatre (Garry Stewart) and Chrissie Parrott Dance Company, working with world leading choreographers such as Mats Ek, Christopher Bruce, Graeme Murphy, William Forsyth and many more. He was Assistant Director for the English National Opera’s Madama Butterfly, PIAF 2015. He co-directed Co.Loaded (for older dancers) with Margrete Helgeby. He has taught dance in high schools, primary schools and at WA Academy of Performing Arts. Stefan is a massage therapist, a puppetry workshop leader at Spare Parts Puppet Theatre and is studying Flamenco at Casa del Compas (Farida Rabih) in Perth. He is now a primary school teacher and has worked as a dance/classroom teacher in primary schools plus tutored at Murdoch University as part of their program for pre-service teachers and teachers in the new Arts Curriculum Dance. Stefan works in Dance for Parkinson and has plans to create more opportunities for our ageing population.
