Individual Giving

“Our partners are so crucial to what we do. They are our family. Dance is a collaboration, which involves a lot of trust, empathy and generosity. When trust and support are nurtured, creativity can begin.”

Rafael Bonachela, Artistic Director

As Australia’s lead contemporary dance company, we are lucky enough to see the profound and transformative effect of dance every day. From new commissions to schools performances, open classes and student workshops, dance enriches life.

We rely on your support to continue our mission of bringing dance to as many people as possible around Australia and the world, and nurturing the next generation of young dancers.

Sydney Dance Company’s Touring Fund keeps us moving!

Each year, more people experience Sydney Dance Company outside Sydney than in it. Over the last five years, 52% of our performances were outside Sydney and this year alone, almost 80% of the venues we will perform in in Australia are outside capital cities. Our full-time ensemble regularly performs in Australian capital cities, regional centres and internationally, and we are passionate about showing our work as widely as possible.

Our regular international tours give us the opportunity to share Australian contemporary dance with audiences all over the world. Over the last two years we have performed in the USA, China, Europe, Hong Kong, New Zealand and South America.  We are incredibly proud that we have shared almost 20 works by 8 different choreographers outside Australia in the last five years and that we have become one of the most sought after contemporary dance companies in the world.

See our touring dates here.

By making a tax-deductible donation to the Touring Fund, you will be:

  • Showcasing the best Australian contemporary dance to global audiences
  • Contributing to cultural exchange on our International Tour
  • Ensuring that audiences across all states and territories of Australia can enjoy contemporary dance in their home town
  • Supporting the health, wellbeing and creative development of young people through education activities delivered as part of our touring schedule
  • Educating the next generation of young dancers through regional and international master-classes

We welcome all our Partners to join us on tour, and regularly arrange Partner trips so you can share the experience of new audiences in new locations, around the globe with us.

Our vision for the future sees Sydney Dance Company cement its position as one of the world’s leading contemporary dance companies, expanding our reach and inspiring Australians’ love of dance. We will commission and create more new work. We will enhance our development program for young choreographers. We will deepen our engagement in the communities of Australia. We will reach more young people and nurture the talent of the future. We will train more extraordinary dancers and we will be a national and global home for contemporary dance.

When audiences leave a performance uplifted and invigorated, when new choreographers are applauded for their creativity and talent, when young artists make the transition from trainee to Company dancer, we know the last half-century of hard work has been worth it and we eagerly await the next chapter.

We have made a promise for the future to perform at our peak, to inspire and educate and to share dance with everyone. As we approach our 50th anniversary in 2019, we are taking steps to secure the next 50 years. We are reaching out to the entire Sydney Dance Company family through a campaign to both enable the transformation of our physical space and underpin our creativity for decades to come.

By joining with us, you will unleash a transformation. Your support will enhance our capacity to become the national centre for contemporary dance, you will create long-term pathways to nurture the dancers and choreographers of future generations and you will open a gateway for people to participate in dance at all levels.

We invite you to take a step forward and join us on the journey.

The transformation of our home will provide:

  • A new studio, Studio 5. The Neilson Studio will be a unique, purpose-built studio overlooking Sydney Harbour Bridge; a multi-purpose space used for rehearsal and performance, education programs and public dance classes.
  • Our four existing studios will be upgraded, including Studio 2 The Joan Barrie Studio – a Gift From Catriona and Simon Mordant where the Company rehearse and create new choreography; and Studio 4 The Wales Family Studio where our Pre-Professional Year dancers undertake their training, as well as Studio 1 The Clifford Studio and Studio 3 The Zampatti Studio.
  • State-of-the-art digital technologies across all five studios to ensure that audiences across the world can access and experience dance.
  • Reconfigured café, foyer space and public facilities to improve the experience of all of our customers.
  • Enhanced gym and physiotherapy facilities to support the wellbeing of our dancers.
  • Production facilities to support the presentation of our work.
  • Refurbishment of the administration offices.
