#42: The Festival Circuit

published

26 November 2019

The seventies were a heady time in Australian culture, and festivals abounded: from the Aquarius Festival in Canberra, the Gemini Festival in Toowoomba, and the Waratah Festival in Sydney’s Hyde Park.

The Dance Company (NSW) performed at all of these, with ticket prices ranging from $1.50 to $2.00. This period also saw the Company tour RSL clubs: it wasn’t the mainstream, but it gave the burgeoning Company much broader exposure, paving the way for the Sydney Dance Company we know today.
