Young dancers will have fun, develop their dance skills and be taught by the best in the industry at Sydney Dance Company’s Winter School Holiday Workshops. Explore a range of dance styles these holidays, from Commercial & Street Dance to Musical Theatre, Contemporary and more.

FAQs

Sydney Dance Company holiday workshops are primarily for young dancers (aged 5-18) with some experience. We also offer workshops for beginner dancers. Please book the course appropriate to your age group and experience level.

Wear casual dance wear, something that you already have and feel comfortable in e.g. dance tights and top, leotard and tights with skirt or shorts over the top, track pants and t-shirt/singlet top. For Jazz and Hip Hop bring jazz shoes or sneakers and for Contemporary and Lyrical bring ballet flats or cotton socks. You can also dance bare foot.

Please bring your own lunch, snacks and drinks. Students with any allergies should take appropriate precautions. Take your bags into the studio with you and leave valuables at home. There is hand sanitiser available at multiple points across the Studios for you to use.

Parents/Guardians will be asked to create an account for themselves. Once this is created, you have the option to attach a child account to your account. Please create an account for each child you wish to enrol. Enrol in the selected course and then checkout. If you wish to enrol multiple children or purchase multiple workshops, click again to add another class/child before checking out.

We do not provide refunds or credits for change of mind or other personal circumstances. We can provide a credit note if the cancellation is due to a medical reason and a medical certificate is provided.

Dance classes can involve risk of personal injury. While Sydney Dance Company takes all reasonable care in the conduct of its classes, it accepts no responsibility for injury or loss caused during classes or whilst participants are at or near the dance studio. You are responsible for ensuring that you are physically and medically fit for the class and during the class you must at all times take care of your own personal safety. If an advertised teacher is suddenly unavailable, due to circumstances beyond our control, a replacement teacher with similar attributes and qualifications will be employed.

Sydney Dance Company’s Winter School Holiday Workshops are the perfect opportunity for young dancers aged 5 – 18 to develop technique, explore their creativity and, most importantly, have fun!

These 2- and 3-day workshops (excluding beginner dance programs) culminate in an informal sharing for families at 3:45pm on the final day.

With a range of different styles and levels available, there’s an option for every young performer this school holidays.Find the right fit based on what your dancer loves, or try something new.

Commercial & Street Dance

Hip Hop, Theatre Jazz, Jazz & JFH

Ideal for dancers who love fast-paced, expressive movement.

High-energy and performance-driven, these workshops focus on commercial choreography. Dancers will build confidence, musicality and stage presence while learning bold, dynamic routines.

Classical & Contemporary

Ballet, Lyrical, Improvisation & Contemporary

A great workshop for dancers looking to refine technique.

Develop strong technique, alignment and expressive movement. These workshops focus on control, flow and musical interpretation.

All Styles Workshops

Hip Hop, Contemporary, Lyrical & Theatre Jazz

Best for dancers who want to try a bit of everything.

Designed to build versatility across multiple styles! In this workshop dancers will explore different techniques while learning a variety of choreography.

Beginner Workshops

No experience needed.

A supportive introduction to dance for those just starting out. These sessions focus on basic technique, coordination and confidence in a fun, encouraging environment.

Musical Theatre

Perfect for dancers who love to perform.

Combine dance with storytelling and performance. These workshops explore theatre jazz, character work and expressive choreography. Learn how to sing and dance in character. Work with a choreographer/director and a musical director across the three days to create a short presentation.

Neuro-Inclusive Dance WorkshopA welcoming, autism-friendly workshop designed to support dancers of all abilities. Sessions include warm-ups, creative activities and contemporary dance in a structured, inclusive environment. Parents and carers are welcome to remain in the space.

This neuro-inclusive and autism-friendly workshop, delivered by Sydney Dance Company as part of our Summer School Holiday Dance Workshop program, offers young participants the chance to explore creativity through dance and movement in a supported environment. Open to ages 8 – 12, the session includes a warm-up, creative games and activities, and contemporary dance choreography led by our teaching artists. Parents and carers are welcome to remain in the space to support participants.

Adaptations made for this session include:
• workshop capped at 14 participants
• reduced music volume
• reduced lighting
• visual story made available
• quiet area

Schedule:

10.15am: Registrations Opens
10.30am – 12.15pm: Activities, dance choreographer. Will include a 15 minute break.

Visual stories are used to prepare people for a new environment or situation.

They are written in an easy-read format and use pictures to provide greater accessibility for everyone.

Sydney Dance Company is a short 8-minute walk from Barangaroo metro station or a 15-minute walk from Circular Quay and Wynyard train stations.

Bus services
Buses 324 and 325 run from the CBD to the precinct, with stops just outside the theatre. For details please visit  Transport NSW or telephone 131 500.

Parking
While on-street metered parking is available at the precinct, we recommend parking at the following parking stations located along Hickson Road:
