Dance Style

Theatre Jazz

Jazz dance evolved on Broadway in the 1950s into the new, smooth style that is taught today and known as Theatre Jazz or Modern Jazz.  This performance style of Jazz was popularized to a large extent by Bob Fosse’s work, which is exemplified by Broadway shows such as Chicago and Cabaret and Sweet Charity.  Theatre Jazz is also used in stage shows today such as Fame and Wicked.
