New Breed 2015

8 — 13 December 2015

Overview

In 2015 Sydney Dance Company and Carriageworks will continue their commitment to emerging choreographers and present the second edition of New Breed. Showcasing a rich diversity of choreographic ideas, these incredibly talented choreographers have created brand new pieces on members of Sydney Dance Company.

Working with the male dancers of Sydney Dance Company, the incredibly talented independent Australian dance artist Kristina Chan has created a physical exploration of the pressures society places on men.

Inspired by past and present women who have found themselves in positions of power only to be overthrown comes Reign from indigenous Australian choreographer Daniel Riley.

Company dancers Fiona Jopp and Bernhard Knauer have also created brand new pieces on members of the Sydney Dance Company ensemble.

Don’t miss this limited season of raw talent and fresh ideas from some of Australia’s most exciting dance creators.

Media

★★★★ New Breed premiered last year under the direction of Sydney Dance Company Director Rafael Bonachela, and it’s sophomore outing was nothing short of spectacular.” – The Music

“A diverse and stimulating evening of new dance works.” – ArtsHub

“Its appeal is surely in the parade of diverse, sometimes madly imaginative works; short works which push boundaries but are defined, usually, by one clear idea or narrative.” – Daily Review

“Both flow with intense, rippling phrases that involve the viewer/listener.” – Sydney Morning Herald (Bernard Knauer’s Derived)

“The movement is thick, weighty and juicy all at once, answering the dark sonorities of the music.” – The Australian (Kristina Chan’s Conform)
