Biography

Raised in Erie, Pennsylvania, Stephen Galloway began dancing at the age of 13. He joined Ballet Frankfurt at the age of 17 and remained with the company as principal dancer for the next two decades.

Shortly after his arrival in Frankfurt, he began designing costumes for the company at William Forsythe’s request. In 1992 he was named head costume designer and style coordinator.

He has also designed for Kirov Ballet, American Ballet Theater, Paris Opera, La Scala Opera, Scottish Ballet, and Finnish National Ballet. Mr. Galloway has maintained a long-standing, successful collaboration with Dutch photography duo Inez and Vinoodh and has deep ties to the fashion world, acting as creative director for fashion house Issey Miyake (1993-1997) and staging runway shows for fashion houses Versace Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent. Since 1997 he has served as creative consultant to The Rolling Stones.
