Josh Goot

Costume Designer, 6 Breaths
Biography

Josh Goot is an Australian designer, born in 1980. Living and working in Sydney, and producing high profile fashion collections each season, he has been described as ‘modernism’s new messiah’ (Jamie Huckbody, Harper’s Bazaar) and ‘the king of urban chic’ (Stephen Todd, The Australian) for his ‘fast paced urban sportswear.’ (Mark Holgate, Vogue).

In 2005, Josh showed his first collection at Australian Fashion Week. The launch collection explored the idea of tailored comfort. The collection was created in 100% cotton jersey. It introduced a cool, modern attitude, ease and simplicity as brand values. In the same year, Josh’s debut collection won him the Tiffany & Co. Young Designer of the Year Award. Judges were impressed by the concept, aesthetic and future smart ideology of the collection. International interest followed. In July 2005, the label featured on the cover of international fashion bible Women’s Wear Daily.  In 2006 Josh Goot made his first appearance at New York Fashion Week.

Josh Goot then moved to London in 2008. The next collection was acclaimed for its ‘pragmatic modernism’ (Sarah Mower, Style.com) expressed in digital prints, clean lines and colour blocking. In 2009, Josh was awarded the Marie Claire Best Designer Award in Australia and was nominated as a finalist in the International Mango Fashion Award in Barcelona. Josh Goot continues to show in Sydney at Australian Fashion Week and is one of Australia’s most celebrated and talked about young designers. 6 Breaths was Josh Goot’s first commission to design costumes for dance.

Goot is the costume designer for Rafael Bonachela‘s 6 Breaths, part of Season Two from 1 – 9 Nov 2019 in Sydney.
