Taite, 13, began with Irish dancing lessons, but now he loves Contemporary. We spoke with Taite and his mum Bethwyn about Taite’s dance journey and why he keeps coming back to our holiday workshops.

5 Minutes with Taite

When/how did you start dancing?

I started at the age of 7 with Irish dancing as it took place in my school hall and I thought it was interesting. I then went onto other styles of dancing (Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz).

What do you love about dance?

I love the freedom of movement and the joy of it.

What do you enjoy most about Sydney Dance Company?

Sydney Dance Company workshops are special because of how they explore dance styles. I love Contemporary dance. I also find the improvisation very fascinating to explore. The workshops are great as they are different and have something for everyone.

Why did you choose a Sydney Dance Company workshop for Taite?

Sydney Dance Company is world renowned – not only for its performances but also for its dedication to developing Contemporary dance and dancers, offering experience with a variety of great teachers.

What did Taite learn from the workshop?

He’s been to a few and each one has been great but very different. The last workshop exploring improvisation and developing choreography in teams is something quite unique – it focused not just on the legs and arms, it also focused on the mind and creativity.

Would you recommend Sydney Dance Company workshops to other parents?

Yes – they understand dance, kids and the artform. Taite is in safe and inspiring hands.

Summer Holiday Workshops run from 2 – 25 Jan 2018 in Walsh Bay, Parramatta and Penrith.
