“I need another world. This one’s nearly gone” – Anohni

Academy-Award-nominated and Mercury-Prize-winner Anohni, formerly known as Antony Hegarty, the force behind the band Antony and the Johnsons, will feature in the climax of Bryce Dessner’s new emotional score for Rafael Bonachela’s Impermanence.

Much of Anohni’s work, including songs such as 4 Degrees, has been influenced by her passion for the environment. She spoke out about the Australian fires in January:

“My heart is broken… Half a billion wild animals burned alive”.

Coinciding with Anohni’s outpouring of frustration, Bryce Dessner was in Paris writing the score for Bonachela’s Impermanence and was equally impacted by the devastation of the Australian bush.

Dessner reached out to his friend Anohni who he felt shared his concern for the fragility and impermanence of the planet. Anohni was delighted to have her hauntingly beautiful song Another World feature as the closing movement of Dessner’s Impermanence score. Another World echoes the sentiments that have driven Dessner and Bonachela in the creation of Impermanence.

Woven in with the Australian String Quartet and Sydney Dance Company performing live on stage, Dessner’s score for Impermanence will be sure to resonate with you long after you have left the theatre.
