Matinee for Primary Students

‘Watching Sydney Dance Company was one of the best excursions ever. Every single student was fully engaged for the entire day. Unheard of!’ Teacher, Ultimo Public School 2014

Sydney Dance Company presents school matinees created especially for primary school students to see, hear and learn about contemporary dance from Australia’s leading contemporary dance company. Students will be amazed by the skill, creativity and energy of contemporary dance and teachers will value the support for teaching dance in the classroom. The primary school matinee is accompanied by a free curriculum relevant resource pack.

Crazy Times

Does anybody know what the children of today will be doing tomorrow?

In a first for Sydney Dance Company, and in collaboration with Co3 Australia, Antony Hamilton’s Crazy Times takes primary school audiences on a lo-fi, surrealist, action adventure, driven by the pulse of high-energy and mind-bending dance moves. Choreographed and created for primary audiences, Crazy Times is a fascinating exploration of the fast changing world we are born into today, and the unknown world we will face in the future. Join four dancers as they embark on a dreamlike journey through a world where things are not always as they seem.

Premiering at the Sydney Opera House on 14 March, this production will be specifically for primary audiences in Grades 3-6 and will be accompanied by curriculum-linked learning resources.

Through the generous support of the Fondation d’entreprise Hermès, this production is also available for in-school performances in Western Sydney from 20 March to 7 April.

Please email education@sydneydancecompany.com to enquire about subsidised performances.

This project is supported by Fondation d’entreprise Hermès and has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council for the Arts, its arts funding and advisory body.

Sneak Peeks

Our Sneak Peeks, on offer in some regional venues, give young audiences the unique opportunity to see how a professional dance company prepares for a performance by inviting them into the theatre during rehearsal. Sydney Dance Company’s Rehearsal Director leads class and rehearsal and shares some background information on the production with the audience, with the opportunity for questions.
