Frequently Asked Questions

Please enter Sydney Dance Company via our main entrance.

Make sure to inform Customer Service when you have arrived and check in via the iPad at the desk.

The Conditioning Studio is located up the second set of stairs at the end of the hallway, there is a waiting area just outside the studio.

If you require access to the lift, please ask one of the Customer Service team and they will assist. The lift requires a swipe card to operate and is located outside the Neilson Studio entrance, which is approximately halfway along the right side of Wharf 4/5.

All clients must use the lift for sessions starting at 7am or earlier.

All new clients must start with a Private session in order to be adequately assessed and have a tailor made program created. We recommend starting with our Pilates Intro Pack for $200 (total value $390). This includes 3 Private sessions at nearly a 50% discount. We can also customise our Pilates Intro Pack to include Small Group sessions or swap it to Online Privates at no extra cost.

Please contact our Conditioning Studio Manager [email protected] to organise this.

We ask that all new clients complete a private session first as your instructor will need time to talk through injuries, goals, complete a postural assessment, and begin teaching you your tailor-made program. This ensures that all clients receive equal attention from the instructor in our Small Group sessions and prevents you waiting around in-between exercises.

Once you have completed your Initial Consult (Private Pilates), you will be able to join a session with any of our experienced instructors who will have access to detailed notes from your assessment.

It is best not to wait any longer than a week between each of your first three to four sessions. This way you don't start from scratch every session. Exercise is most effective when practised regularly, at least three times per week, with or without your instructor. Changes occur over a 6-8 week period however, you should start to notice some changes within the first week or two.

Pilates requires patience at the start whilst you are learning the correct connections and unlearning inefficient muscle recruitment patterns. If exercises are not performed mindfully, you may not feel like they are challenging you, targeting the right muscles, or worse still, could lead to injury. Your instructor will know how to push you correctly over time so that your Pilates Program feels like a challenging and effective workout.

Please make sure to bring:

- A bath sized towel

- Fresh socks

- Comfortable clothes you can move in like trackpants, leggings, T-shirts etc.

Please also make sure that your Initial Consult Questionnaire Form is completed ahead of time.

Please call (02) 9258 4818 or email [email protected] to pay and book in for a Private Pilates session. An email with a zoom link will be sent to you a few minutes before your session starts.

Please have ready:

- A laptop with a functioning camera

- Good internet connection

- Zoom account

- Comfortable clothes you can move in like trackpants, leggings, T-shirts etc.

- Pilates/yoga mat (you can try laying some towels over the carpet if you do not have a mat)

- Any props you may have (we can work without any props) for example pillows and cushions, balls, weights, therabands

Please also make sure that your Initial Consult Questionnaire Form is completed ahead of time.

Please scroll down in your booking confirmation email until you see the link labelled ‘Initial Consult Questionnaire’. It is an online form that does not need to be printed. Please note this may take up to 10 minutes to complete.

You should receive a booking confirmation email shortly after booking in for your session. If you are having trouble locating it, try the following:

All information is stored securely and confidentially in our system. These questions are asked so that we can safely assess your body and create an effective program for you.

If you are uncomfortable with any questions, you may choose to select 'Prefer not to say’. It is important that you still complete and sign the waiver at the end of the document. Your instructor will then ask follow-up questions in your first session to make sure your practise is safe and informed.

If your session starts at 7am or earlier, please use the Conditioning Studio lift. The lift is located outside the Neilson Studio entrance, which is approximately halfway along on the right-side of Wharf 4/5.

The lift does not allow access to the mezzanine floor without a swipe card so your instructor will see the lift go down and will call it up from inside the Conditioning Studio. Call the Conditioning Studio phone (02) 9258 4840 if there are any issues. Please use the main entrance from 7am onwards.

Felicity McGee

Felicity McGee is Sydney Dance Company’s full-time Conditioning Studio Manager. Working directly with the professional ensemble and Pre-Professional Year, Felicity works with each person to achieve their personal goals.

As a trained Pilates instructor with a Diploma in Contemporary Pilates Teaching Methodology with Tensegrity Training, Felicity has also completed specialised training with leading breath and posture physiotherapist Jakki Tobin.

With her calming and relaxed approach, she has proven experience in seeing clients gain confidence over their bodies’ abilities and their personal goals, whether that be to sit comfortably at their work desk, partake in their hobbies and passions, or hone in on advance dance techniques. Felicity is passionate about finding the most efficient and pain free biomechanics for her clients using hands-on and gentle guidance.

Felicity’s early training was at Elmhurst Ballet School in England and she danced as an apprentice ballerina in Balletto di Siena.

Coti Cibils

Coti Cibils is passionate about movement and anatomy. She completed her Pilates teacher training in 2010 in Argentina and has been teaching ever since. As a hypermobile dancer with various injuries throughout her career, she has studied and worked towards developing a safe and smart way to train bodies.

Her practice is enriched by 14 years of studying and practicing biomechanical stretching. This technique allowed her to develop a deep knowledge about biomechanics and fascial work, helping to realign the body and prevent and treat injuries by developing strong neuromuscular connections that will last a lifetime.

Coti has worked alongside numerous physiotherapists, gaining a deeper knowledge about how bodies work in a global way (tensegrity) and how the root of our injuries can be in different places to where we perceive pain.

With a background in dance and acrobatics, Coti has integrated all her knowledge from different techniques and her work experiences in order to create a tailored Pilates class where no matter your age, injury or main activity, you can get the most efficient training to reach your goals.

Maya Munro

Maya Munro recently completed her studio teaching qualification with Polestar Pilates. Maya has personal experience in rehabilitating injuries and is particularly interested in creating bespoke programs that target specific client needs as required, including; rehabilitation, general fitness, mobility and dance technique. She employs techniques from the forefront of Pilates teaching.

Maya also teaches Cecchetti ballet at the Valerie Jenkins Ballet Academy. She started ballet at age three, training at The McDonald College School of Performing Arts and at Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance in London. She is currently training as a contemporary dancer with Sydney Dance Company’s 2023 Pre-Professional Year.

Anna Harrison

Anna Harrison’s love and appreciation for Pilates began during her university days, over 20 years ago. The holistic philosophy of Pilates aligned with her studies in Naturopathy, yet more so she could feel health benefits after each and every studio session.

With a Bachelor in Naturopathy Anna practiced in renowned clinics in both Sydney and Hobart, her training having provided a strong scientific foundation which informed her clinical focus. Anna’s fascination for understanding the workings of the human body and her passion for facilitating wellbeing, led her to study the Pilates method and gain a mat and studio qualification with Polestar Training.

Anna’s teaching philosophy centers around nourishing the body through proper alignment and restorative movement, both as a preventive measure and as a form of ‘movement as medicine’ when ideal body kinetics have been compromised. She believes that our bodies have evolved to move in a myriad of ways, yet have been restricted in large part due to modern living. She is dedicated to crafting personalised programs for each client with a common goal of restoring functional movement.

Image of Sydney Dance Company Pilates Instructor Anna Harrison smiling. She is wearing a white sweater and has short brown hair.
Sareena Barnes

Sareena began a Pilates career following a shoulder injury as a dancer many years ago. Pilates aided greatly in her recovery and prompted Sareena to explore Pilates further. She is interested in alignment and efficient movement of the body, not only in its outwardly physical movements but also the bio-mechanical aspects of our complex anatomical functions.

For Sareena, Pilates not only combines the mind-body system of exercise that has always compelled her, but also the physical therapy and sports science behind how the body works.

She is dedicated to crafting personalised programs for each client with a common goal of restoring functional movement.
