“The teacher was warm, encouraging and inclusive regardless of what dance ability and experience you had! The workshop pushed me outside of my comfort zone and encouraged growth of my self confidence. I developed the confidence to engage and dance with people I did not know. It was a real thrill to be able to learn some of [Sydney Dance Company’s] ab [intra] choreography and perform this for our parents at the end of the term.”

Contemporary Dance for ages 8 to 11
These fun classes for children aged 8 to 11 years will focus on developing foundation skills in Contemporary dance. Developing strength and flexibility, students will learn about the body and how it moves. Young dancers will be involved in exercises and tasks which will build their creativity and confidence, and introduce improvisation as a process to create new movement. In addition to learning contemporary choreographic routines, students develop their ability to make decisions on impulse and work collaboratively. These classes will offer an opportunity to be creative and develop freedom of expression.

Contemporary Dance for ages 12 to 15
Designed to stimulate and inspire young dancers, this course will promote greater understanding of Contemporary dance techniques. Students will focus on strength and flexibility. Collaborating in a creative environment, students will be exposed to structured improvisation exercises and choreographic task work that leads to the creation of movement. By harnessing their own creativity, students will develop their own unique movement vocabulary. Students will also be taught various phrases from Sydney Dance Company’s repertoire.

Contemporary Dance for ages 15 to 18
