Zachary Lopez

Biography

Born in Brisbane, Zachary began his dance training at the Queensland University of Technology. After graduating in 2013, he received the Most Outstanding Graduate
Scholarship. He also received the Exceptional Young Artist Scholarship for Sydney Dance Company’s Pre-Professional Year 2014.

Zachary received a 2015 Australia Council for the Arts ArtStart Grant to work with and learn from international artists and companies such as Marina Mascarell, Skånes Dansteater in Sweden, and Ivan Perez at the Korzo Theatre in the Netherlands, where he was an apprentice dancer.

He choreographed Like a Salmon in the Sahara on Sydney Dance Company’s PPY dancers, which was performed at Carriageworks in Sydney 2016.

Zachary is a founding member of Western Australia’s new contemporary dance company Co3 and has recently performed in Raewyn Hill’s the cry as part of Perth’s Moveme Festival 2016. He has also worked with Opera Australia, The Farm with Gavin Webber, Ochre Contemporary Dance Company and Sydney Dance Company, where he was an Associate Artist on Le Grand Tango with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.

Zachary will perform in Nude Live at NSW Art Gallery from 7-23 January 2017 as part of the Sydney Festival.
