Sydney Dance Company Wharf Studios

Five state-of-the-art dance studios housed in an early 20th-century cargo wharf, Sydney Dance Company’s Wharf Studios, home to the Company since 1986, have been recently refurbished.

As an anchor tenant of the Walsh Bay Arts Precinct, Sydney Dance Company creates, rehearses, teaches and performs in the Wharf Studios, and welcomes tens of thousands of enthusiastic dancers of all ages through the doors every year.

Café – Mr Jones Walsh Bay
Mr Jones Walsh Bay offers delicious food and coffee you can enjoy in our spacious and sunlit foyer – or grab to go!

Open 7am to 3pm, Monday – Saturday, it’s the perfect place to grab a coffee before work, relax during your lunch break or indulge in a sweet treat after class.

There’s plenty of options to choose from with a daily selection of fresh salads and sandwiches, cold-pressed juices, burgers or even their famous Mr Green Smashed Avo!

Free WiFi is available, with seating both indoors and outside.

How to get there
Transport to the Wharf Studios

Public transport is the best way to get to the Wharf. Circular Quay railway station, bus and ferry terminus is the closest public transport hub. The Wharf is a brisk 15 minute walk from Circular Quay.

Bus services
For details please click ​here​ or telephone 131 500. 324 and 325 buses run from the CBD to Dawes Point, with stops just outside the Studios.

Parking at The Wharf
While on-street metered parking is available in Walsh Bay, we recommend parking at the following parking station located along Hickson Road:

● Wilson Parking​, Barangaroo
● Barangaroo Reserve, 5 Towns Place, Barangaroo

Unassisted access Wheelchair access into Sydney Dance Company Wharf Studios is via the main entrance located on Hickson Road.

Staff assisted access If you have mobility impairments and are visiting the Sydney Dance Company Admin team, please access the building via the main reception and our Customer Service team will assist you to use the lift to the admin suite.

Accessible facilities There are accessible toilets on both the Ground floor and Admin floor of the Wharf Studios.

Parking
Open 24 hours a day, the car park entrance is located on ​Sturt Street​. Parking options include ​early bird​ and standard​ parking​. For more information on available parking options please visit the Arts Centre ​Car Parking page​.

Accessible Parking All levels of the Arts Centre Melbourne Car Park are fully wheelchair accessible. There are also four accessible parking spaces along Dodds Street, each with a four hour restriction.

By Train Get off at Flinders Street Station in Melbourne CBD and walk for a couple minutes, across the bridge toward St Kilda Road.

A range of dining options are available before and during your performance. Enjoy a quick bite or drink before your show from one of the theatre building’s many dining spaces. Refreshments are also available from the ​foyer bars​ The Barre A vibrant and modern atmosphere, with a focus on seasonal produce, great wine and a classic cocktail list.

Allegro
Located in the Theatres Building offering baguettes, bagels and wraps for those looking for a bite to eat before a show.

Sunday Market
Every Sunday, 10am – 4pm, local artisans fill Arts Centre Melbourne’s Lawn to showcase their unique, handmade goods ranging from arts and crafts to freshly made delicacies.

The Protagonist Delicious coffee and freshly baked cakes and biscuits and savoury snacks in the open-air surrounds of Arts Centre Melbourne.

Saké Situated alongside the breathtaking Yarra River, Saké Restaurant & Bar Hamer Hall has cemented its long-standing reputation as the most-loved and celebrated Melbourne Japanese Restaurant.

Wheelchair and mobility access
Accessible seating is available for wheelchair users and their companions, in all Arts Centre Melbourne venues. You can book accessible seating in person at Arts Centre Melbourne Box Office or via the telephone booking line 1300 182 183.

Assistive Hearing
A hearing system is available in all Arts Centre Melbourne venues, except The Pavilion. This sound amplification system utilises an FM signal, providing coverage to all seats in the venues via headphones or neck-loops available from the venue ushers. This system can also be used for guided tours and small meetings in our buildings.

Companion Cards
Companion Card holders are eligible for a complimentary companion ticket to Arts Centre Melbourne programs and performances.

Carriageworks

Carriageworks is one of Australia’s leading multi-arts institutions. Sydney Dance Company made its debut at Carriageworks in 2008, and is where we present ​New Breed​ in Bay 20 – new works by Australian’s most innovative emerging choreographers made possible by The Balnaves Foundation. Bay 20 seats up to 270 and its post-industrial atmosphere makes it unique in Sydney.
