Wayne Parsons was born in St Albans, England and graduated from the London Contemporary Dance School with a first-class BA Honours and a post graduate diploma. In 2002 he joined Richard Alston Dance Company as an apprentice, after this he danced for National Dance Company Wales from 2003 to 2008. He returned to Richard Alston to dance for the Company until 2010. Wayne has also worked with Motionhouse Dance Theatre, Yorke Dance Project, SmallPetitKlein, The Van L Dance Company and was part of DanceLines 2009 under the direction of Wayne McGregor. During his career Wayne Parsons has performed major roles in works by choreographers such as Richard Alston, Mark Baldwin, Stijn Celis, Kevin Finnan, Itzik Galili, Wendy Houstoun, Martin Lawrence, Henri Oguike, Stephen Petronio and Stephen Shropshire. He has enjoyed many international tours of these works performing in Cuba, England, Greece, Holland, Ireland, Poland, Scotland, Wales and the USA.
Wayne has created three works which were toured in NDC Wales’ (then Diversions Dance) Alternative Routes Season: Chrysalis (2006), Publicly Private Me (2007) and Visiting Then (2008). In 2008 Wayne was awarded two scholarships, one from the Arts Council of Wales and the second from The Lisa Ullmann Travelling Scholarship Fund to attend the Martha Graham School in New York.
Most recently Wayne danced again with Richard Alston Dance Company in many works both on tour in the UK and abroad. During 2010 he was also a guest artist in Motionhouse Dance Theatre’s Cascade. He also collaborated with the Van-L Dance Company on a new piece Three Sighs to Beauty, performed as part the Place Prize 2010.
Throughout his career Wayne has taught extensively across many ages and abilities including undergraduate students at London Contemporary Dance School and London Studio Centre, and professional company classes for DV8 Physical Theatre, NDC Wales and Independent Ballet Wales.
Wayne joined Sydney Dance Company in January 2011. He has performed in Rafael Bonachela’s 6 Breaths (2011); LANDforms (2011); we unfold (2011) and The Land of Yes and The Land of No (2011). He also performed in Jacopo Godani’s Raw Models (2011). In November/December 2011, Wayne was part of the highly acclaimed tour of Between Breath & Form to New York, Barcelona and London.
