Kynan graduated from the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts with an Advanced Diploma of Performing Arts in Dance in 2000. In 2001 he was the recipient of an Australia Council for the Arts Emerging Artist Fellowship with Leigh Warren and Dancers to train with the company for a year. Kynan then joined Dance North for their 2002/2003 seasons performing in works by Jane Pirani, Natalie Weir, Kylie Ball and Brian Lucas. While in Townsville he created two short works for the company – absent places and wildflowers. Kynan rejoined Leigh Warren and Dancers in 2004, performing in a range of new and established works, both in Australia and overseas, until 2008.
While in Adelaide, Kynan also danced for Troy Mundy in his full length work Green D-men and performed in Gala Moody’s work for Dance Creation 2006. He toured major and regional centers with the Tasmanian Classical Ballet Company as a Principal Dancer for their season of The Nutcracker. Recently he created his first full-length work, She was, She is… for the 3rd year graduating students at the Adelaide Centre for the Arts. Kynan was invited to join Sydney Dance Company for its 2009 season and made his Company debut in Rafael Bonachela’s we unfold at the Sydney Theatre. Since that time Kynan has performed in Rafael’s 360° for seasons in Melbourne, Brisbane and at the Christchurch International Festival. Kynan appeared in Aszure Barton’s work Sid’s Waltzing Masquerade for seasons in Newcastle and Canberra and danced with the Company during the New Breed season of commissioned short works during the Spring Dance Festival at the Sydney Opera House in Craig Bary’s commissioned piece Pictures of a One Night Stand. Most recently, Kynan has worked with Finnish choreographer Kenneth Kvarnstrom during the creation of his commissioned work Mercury.
