Annabel Knight

Newcastle born Annabel Knight moved to Melbourne at the age of sixteen to further her dance training at the Victorian College of the Arts. After graduating in 2001, Annabel danced with Adelaide-based Company, Leigh Warren and Dancers. In 2002, she was selected to perform at the Monaco International Dance Forum. Soon after, she was invited to work with Sydney Dance Company, appearing in the return season of Graeme Murphy’s dance musical Tivoli, in the role of Mona and in the Tango del fuego duo. Later, Annabel toured to South Korea and Athens with the Really Useful Company’s production of Cats, in the role of Tantomile and in The Production Company’s season of Carousel, before she was cast as the Female Lead in the Bollywood feature film Touch. In 2005/06, Annabel performed in Germany in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera, in the role of Meg Giry.

Upon her return from Germany, Annabel was invited to join Sydney Dance Company for its 2006 Shanghai International Festival season of Graeme Murphy’s Grand. She then joined the Company for its tour of 9 cities in the United States and all of its Australian seasons and tour commitments in ‘07/’08 including Stephen Petronio’s Underland and Murphy’s Ever After Ever and Berlin. Since that time Annabel has drawn critical acclaim for her outstanding performances in the works of guest choreographers Meryl Tankard, Rafael Bonachela, Shaun Parker, Reed Luplau and Aszure Barton. In 2009, Annabel was nominated for the Australian Dance Award and for the 2009 Helpmann Award in the category of Best Performance by a Female Dancer for her role in Rafael Bonachela’s 360°.

Annabel has performed in Rafael Bonachela’s we unfold (2009-2011); 360° (2009); 6 Breaths (2010-2011); Soledad (2010); LANDforms (2011) and The Land of Yes & The Land of No (2011). She also performed in New Breed (2009), Kenneth Kvarnstrom’s Mercury (2009); Emanuel Gat’s Satisfying Musical Moments (2010); and Jacopo Godani’s Raw Models (2011). In November/December 2011, Annabel was part of the highly acclaimed tour of Between Breath & Form to New York, Barcelona and London.
