Sydney Dance Company is very excited to be involved with the new season of So You Think You Can Dance in 2010.

We have welcomed many of the couples to our Studios for rehearsals in the last couple of weeks and  the professional company performed a section of Rafael Bonachela’s work “We Unfold” on the show on Wednesday 3rd March.

SYDNEY DANCE COMPANY PERFORMS 6 BREATHS EXCERPT

Sydney Dance Company will perform an excerpt from Rafael Bonachela’s 6 Breaths on So You Think You Can Dance, April 8 at 8Ppm on TEN.

We are pleased to announce that our Artistic Director, Rafael Bonachela will be choreographing a contemporary piece for a Top 8 couple to be aired on 31st March.

YANNUS SUFANDI – TOP 12 CHOREOGRAPHER
Yannus Sufandi, our Hip Hop teacher choreographed for Top 12 couple Kieren and Carly.  His very cute Pinnochio Hip Hop routine wowed the audience and Bonnie said “that is my favourite routine of the night”.  Yannus teaches Hip Hop at Sydney Dance Company on Thursday nights at 8pm.

    • Pania Taku

      Pania Taku brought her high energy brand of hip-hop dancing to season 2 and left the competition with strong friendships and a whole bunch of new fans. Pania always had a smile on her face and was an uplifting performer. Pania will be working at SDC on the upcoming school holiday workshops and we can’t wait!

      Chanelle Johnson

      Chanelle brought her bubbly and vivacious personality to the competition and made it all the way into the top 16 dancers. Chanelle will be part of our teaching team for the upcoming school holiday workshops.

      Amy Campbell

      Amy was one of the TOP TEN dancers on So You Think You Can Dance 2009, making it all the way to the finals achieving third place for the series.

      Amy has taught Lyrical Jazz classes at Sydney Dance Company and also for our School holiday workshops.  She is currently on leave, as she is performing in FAME THE MUSICAL!

      Charlie Bartley

      Charlie studied dance from aged 7 in his hometown at the Dubbo Ballet Studio.  In 2009, his dedication to dance paid off, securing a position in the So You Think You Can Dance Top Twenty, winning the hearts of the nation and making it all the way to the grand final achieving 2nd place!

      Charlie is a Jazz teacher for our open class program and School Holiday Workshops.  He is currently on leave to perform in FAME THE MUSICAL!

    • Vanessa Sew Hoy

      Vanessa was a contestant on season 1 wowed judge Jason Coleman with her first audition piece. Affectionately known as “The Ballerina”, from there she made it into the top 6 and displayed great versatility dancing everything from salsa to hip-hop to Jazz.  Vanessa has performed with the Australian Ballet Company and the English National Ballet.  Vanessa is a regular teacher for our School Holiday workshops.

      Rhys Bobridge

      Rhys was the very colourful and unforgettable runner-up from season 1 and has gone on to perform on TV and in live performances across Australia. Rhys is one of Lyrical Jazz dance class teachers and also teaches for our school holiday workshops.

      Joel de Carteret

      Joel is probably better known as “JD” from the first season of Dance. He brought a fresh new hip-hop perspective to the show and was recognised by Matt Lee as being one of the best choreographers in the competition. He was reined the “Gene Kelly” of Hip Hop by judge, Jason Colemen.  JD is soon to appear on ABCs new TV series ”Dance Academy” and we’re also lucky to have him as our hip-hop teacher.

      Rhiannon Villareal

      Rhiannon teaches JFH at our Sydney Studios and Funk at our Parramatta studios.  Rhiannon was one of the TOP TEN Dancers on So You Think You Can Dance but prior to this she already had a blossoming career as a dancer, starting with the Michael Jackson’s HISTORY tour in 1996 when she was only 7 years old, where she got to give him a rose as part of the act and he kissed her forehead!   Rhiannon has performed with Jessica Mauboy, Rogue Traders, Nikki Webster, Young Divas as well as featuring in Dolly Magazine, Mornings with Kerri-Anne and Optus TV Commercials.

      Rhys Bobridge
      Rhys was the unforgettable runner-up from season 1 and has gone on to perform on TV and in live performances across Australia.     • Sarah Boulter

      Sarah Boulter has become a household name through her spell bounding choreography featured on So You Think You Can Dance.  Sarah has worked with great names such as Celine Dion and Mia Michaels.  As well as running her own full-time school Ev & Bow, Sarah is a guest teacher for our school holiday programs.

      Adam Williams

      Adam has been invited to choreograph his famous Theatre Jazz routines for all three seasons of So You Think You Can Dance.  Adam has choreographed for artists including Natalie Bassingthwaite, Delta Goodrem, Sophie Monk and Vanilla Ice.  He has performed with Tom Jones, Kelly Clarkson and Kylie Minogue and has appeared in many musicals including Dirty Dancing, Saturday Night Fever, Footloose and Chicago.  Adam is a regular teacher at our school holiday workshops.

      Manuela Oliveira

      Manuela was the Artistic Director and head choreographer for So You Think You Can Dance, Asia in 2009 as well as choreographing for the show in 2007 and 2008.  She also choreographed for So You Think You Can Dance Australia in 2008.    Manuela is also a sought after dancer and choreographer in Australia and she has appeared in numerous TV commercials including Samsung, 7UP, Old Navy, Nike, Adidas and more.  We are priviledged to have Manuela teaching dance classes at both our Sydney and Parramatta studios.

      Yannus Sufandi

      Yannus choreographed for So You Think You Can Dance Australia in 2008 and 2009 and will be choreographing again for the TOP 12 in 2010.  He was the Artistic Director for So You Think You Can Dance Malaysia.  Yannus has choreographed for the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards as well as TV Commercials for 7up, Sony Ericsson and Samsung.  He has appeared in Operas at the Sydney Opera House including Madame Butterfly, Turandot and Aida.  Yannus teaches regular Hip Hop classes at Sydney Dance Company and also teaches for our School Holiday programs.

      Michael Boyd

      Michael Boyd choreographed Jazz routines for So You Think You Can Dance season 1 and 2.
      Michael was the lead dancer in Baz Luhrman’s Moulin Rouge.  He has choreographed for Delta Goodrem and Bardot and peformed with Grease the Arena Spectacular, Bondi Ballet, Kelly Clarkson and Grinspoon.  Last week, he performed on So You Think You Can Dance with American Idol artist, Adam Lambert.  Michael teachers Theatre Jazz and JFH classes for adults at Sydney Dance Company.
