Laura Wood

Laura Wood was born in Canberra and commenced her dance training at Sayers Dance Centre in Kenmore, Brisbane.

In 2011 Laura was accepted into the Queensland Dance School of Excellence (QDSE), in association with Queensland Ballet and Kelvin Grove State College. During her QDSE training she completed her high school studies and Royal Academy of Dance exams. On graduation she received the Encouragement Award.

In 2012 she was selected to be Aurora in Sayers Dance Centre’s The Sleeping Beauty and later danced the role of Wendy in the Ballet Theatre of Queensland’s Peter Pan. She received the Queensland Ballet Friends Scholarship and topped Dance at Kelvin Grove State College in the same year.

In 2014, Laura joined Sydney Dance Company’s inaugural Pre-Professional Year. She worked with Rafael Bonachela on dance film Music To Move To and Dean Walsh’s Intrusion.

Laura was selected to become an Associate Artist doing project based work with Sydney Dance Company in 2015. Laura featured in Mira Calix’s art instillation Inside There Falls during its world premiere in Sydney Festival 2015 season, featuring choreography by Rafael Bonachela. She will also feature in Sydney Symphony Orchestra’s Le Grand Tango in April 2015 where she will be working with choreographers Rafael Bonachela, Lucas Jervies and Cass Mortimer Eipper.
