Support us

“Our Partners are crucial to what we do. They are our family. Dance is a collaboration, which involves a lot of trust, empathy and generosity. When trust and support are nurtured, creativity can begin.”
Rafael Bonachela, Artistic Director

Your support of Sydney Dance Company ensures that we can continue to deliver as one of the world’s leading contemporary dance companies.

By making a donation you are providing vital support for:

  • our artistic programming and productions
  • our touring program, helping us to inspire audiences across Australia and around the world
  • our education and outreach activities in metro and regional areas
  • and professional learning programs for young dancers

Our donors are our family. As a donor, you will get to know our work, our dancers, our creative collaborators and your fellow supporters at exclusive events throughout the year; you will receive regular updates about how your support is making a difference; and most importantly, you will share in the beauty and thrill of contemporary dance and know that your gift, regardless of its size, is of enormous value.

We hope you will consider renewing your gift each year, or by monthly donation. Regular gifts help to provide stability and support across the entire Company, enabling us to grow our programs and plan for the future.

Our vision for the future sees Sydney Dance Company cement its position as one of the world’s leading contemporary dance companies, expanding our reach and inspiring Australians’ love of dance. We will commission and create more new work. We will enhance our development program for young choreographers. We will deepen our engagement in the communities of Australia. We will reach more young people and nurture the talent of the future. We will train more extraordinary dancers and we will be a national and global home for contemporary dance.

When audiences leave a performance uplifted and invigorated, when new choreographers are applauded for their creativity and talent, when young artists make the transition from trainee to Company dancer, we know the last half-century of hard work has been worth it.

As we celebrate 50 years of Sydney Dance Company in 2019, we have taken a step to securing the future of the Company through a campaign to both enable the transformation of our physical space and underpin our creativity for decades to come.

We are very grateful for the generous support through our Take A Step Campaign. The vital refurbishment of the Walsh Bay Arts Precinct and our home on The Wharf has commenced, and Sydney Dance Company is currently based in Ultimo.

The transformation of our home will include:

  • A new studio, Studio 5. The Neilson Studio will be a unique, purpose-built studio overlooking Sydney Harbour Bridge; a multi-purpose space used for rehearsal and performance, education programs and public dance classes.
  • An upgrade to our four existing studios: Studio 2 The Joan Barrie Studio – a gift from Catriona Mordant AM and Simon Mordant AM – where the Company rehearse and create new work; Studio 4 The Wales Family Studio where our Pre-Professional Year dancers undertake their training: Studio 1 The Clifford Studio and Studio 3 The Zampatti Studio.
  • State-of-the-art digital technologies across all five studios to ensure that audiences across the world can access and experience dance.
  • Reconfigured café, foyer space and public facilities to improve the experience of all our customers.
  • Enhanced gym and physiotherapy facilities to support the wellbeing of our dancers.
  • Production facilities to support the presentation of our work.
  • Refurbishment of the administration offices.
