Description
9 - 25 October 2007 Theatre Royal Sydney 29 November - 8 December QPAC, Queensland Performing Arts Centre Brisbane Graeme Murphy's BERLIN marks the final Sydney season for Graeme Murphy and Janet Vernon as Artistic Directors of Sydney Dance Company. The return of Murphys 1995 work explores the city of Berlin as a symbol of decline and resurrection. Seductively theatrical, it illustrates Murphys ability to choreograph in a way that makes dance an art form to be reckoned with. DANCE AUSTRALIA BERLINs innovative score blends original composition from Iva Davies and Max Lambert with an astonishing variety of covers of songs made famous by David Bowie, Lou Reed, Frank Sinatra and more. Performed live by iOTA; winner of the 2006 Judith Johnson Award for Best Performance in a Musical (Sydney Theatre Awards); and winner of the 2007 Helpmann Awards for Best Male Actor in a Musical (Hedwig and the Angry Inch). iOTA is one of the strongest vocalists to emerge from the Australian independent scene in recent years. He has an amazing range and breadth of character... SYDNEY MORNING HERALD An evocative new set design by Gerard Manion is juxtaposed with Jennifer Irwin's original costumes and a new lighting design by Adrian Sterritt.
